Local knowledge and understanding

Kate ChewFacility Manager

Kate has been in Aged Care 22 years in roles which included the administration and management of a large aged care home and retirement village on the Mid North Coast.

With a keen interest in accreditation standards, Kate completed the ACSAA Assessors course, and took on the incorporated roles of: OH&S and CQI Coordinator, Learning and Development Officer, Project Manager for iCare Clinical Software, Management role of Operations and Self Care Manager of a retirement village.

Kate's favourite achievements were the creation of a fully volunteer-run Village Op Shop to raise funds for village residents and, facilitating the social events and activities for residents.

Prior to coming to Weeroona, Kate managed a large aged care and retirement village with 400 residents on the Mid North Coast. Kate then decided to buy a caravan and travel throughout Australia with her husband Rob. This was goodbye to Port Macquarie. Both Kate and Rob managed lifestyle van parks until Kate missed working in Aged Care.

After deciding to settle in Cowra (Rob's hometown he left 40 years ago), Kate has made Weeroona her new 'work home' and the people of Weeroona are an extended family.

Kate says "I want to enrich people's lives, give them a sense of purpose throughout their elderly years. I also want to help the staff do the best they can to achieve this goal. It's my passion."

Rob ChewDirector of Nursing

Rob has been in the health industry for over 30 years and has experience as a Director of Nursing in aged care, medical sales and immunisation nursing for the Corporate Industry.

When Rob returned to his hometown (Cowra) after close to 40 years away, he took up his dream job at the Cowra Golf Club’s pro shop. He loved it!

However, when Kate took on the role of Facility Manager at Weeroona, Rob was offered the opportunity to join Kate at the helm of onsite management. Rob accepted the position began his tenure as the home’s Director of Nursing.

Rob’s plan for Weeroona includes assisting staff to continue offering the best care and support for Weeroona’s residents. It’s a challenging time in the aged care industry but Rob is prepared to embrace the challenge.
