*Please note - if you are deemed to be a fully supported resident by the Commonwealth Government, the only fee that you will be asked to pay is the basic daily care fee. This fee is around 85% of the full aged pension.

You may be asked to pay one or more of the following fees in residential aged care: 

• A basic daily care fee: this covers care and services cost such as nursing, meals and laundry. For some people this is the only fee they are required to pay.
  
  

• A Non-Clinical Care Contribution: people who need to pay the maximum hotelling contribution may also need to pay a non-clinical care contribution. This fee contributes to personal care costs such as bathing and mobility assistance. Services Australia will tell you if you need to pay a non-clinical care contribution and if so, how much you need to pay. This is based on your means assessment. The maximum amount changes with indexation in March and September. Daily and lifetime caps apply.

• An accommodation payment: this is for your accommodation in the aged care home. Some people will have their accommodation costs met in full or in part by the Australian Government, while others will need to pay the accommodation price agreed with the aged care home. The Department of Health will advise you which applies to you based on an assessment of your income and assets. Please note from 1 November 2025 all aged care providers will be required to either apply a 2%pa retention on refundable accommodation payments (capped at 10% after 5 years), and / or index daily accommodation payments, paid by permanent residents with the dates of indexation set as 20 March and 20 September each year in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

• Higher Everyday Living Fee (HELF): is an optional fee for people who choose to receive a higher and enhanced standard of everyday living services in permanent or respite residential aged care, in addition to what is required to be provided under the Aged Care Rules 2024 and the Residential Care Service List. What is a fully supported resident?

The basic definition of a fully supported resident is a person on the full age pension with less than $46,000 in assets.
